Trout fishing is an exciting, pleasurable and very relaxing activity when everything goes to plan, however, it can be equally as frustrating when we can see the fish but not catch the crafty little buggers. The aim of this article is to give you a few simple trout fishing tips to help increase your catch rate and ultimately your enjoyment.

The golden rule of all trout fishing tips, as with many things, is practice. Now while you most likely have not just fallen of your chair, this really is important. How many times have you learnt a new skill, not applied it and then forgotten it without using it. The only way we can improve and become a better angler is to get out there and just do it, as they say "practice really does make perfect".

Now that we have that revelation out of the way, lets focus on a few trout fishing tips you can put into practice.

Firstly make sure you have the right equipment, for beginners this is one of the most essential trout fishing tips, the wrong rod or line could be the difference between landing a catch and missing out. A light weight five foot rod is a good start, this will allow you to feel the trout strike. Combine this with a light line, the preference here is between four to eight pounds. Avoid using a line that is heavier than this, many anglers make the mistake, including the experienced ones. A rule of thumb is the lighter your line the better feel and control you will have.

Another important tip is to make sure you wear the correct clothing. There is no need to go overboard, just make sure you blend in with your surroundings. Trout can recognise deviations from their natural environment, thus bright unnatural colours may spook the trout and be enough to ensure you go home without a catch. A good idea here is to stick to blacks, greys, dark greens and even browns, whatever will match you to your environment.

The last of the trout fishing tips in this article is to remove any unnatural scents from your hands, such scents can find their way onto your bait, fly, lure etc. Trout can be highly sensitive creatures and any odours not natural to their environment may be all the encouragement they need to bypass your offering. There are a number of ways you can remove odours, but if you are already on location an easy way to remove any unnatural scents is simply to rub your hands in some nearby dirt or grass.

Whilst I can not guarantee these trout fishing tips will increase the number of fish you will catch, I am certain they will increase the number of bites you will feel and hopefully improve your catch rate.
